----- Madrid, Spain ---------------

Madrid the capitol of Spain is a wonderful city. Madrid of all cities in Europe that I had visited was the easiest to get around. The metro is fast and can take you anywhere. You don't need a car in this city. A car would only slow you down. Madrid is home to some beautiful palaces and monuments. A favorite place of mine was the temple of Debod. This is an Egyptian temple brought to and set up on a hill in Madrid overlooking the Royal palace and government buildings. Great sunsets can be viewed from here. I remembered that this was a popular place for locals to hang out at. In the evening before sunset people would be hanging out talking, kids were playing soccer, others were walking their pets. It was very tranquil and scenic here. Not far from the temple is the Plaza Mayor with wonderful Spanish restaurants serving tapas and live entertainment. It was a warm beautiful night with a bright moon and clear sky. In Madrid is the area called Sol (Spanish for Sun). Sol is the place to be after dark. People are everywhere walking around checking out various entertainments like live concerts and such. It was funny seeing these street vendors with all these stolen DVD's on a blanket that on each corner of the blanket was a string so that if the police came, they could snatch up their goods and be off in an instant. Of all the places in Spain that I had a chance to visit, Madrid had the best food and best transportation.
